Principle of photovoltaic power generation

• If the ray of the sun is radiated onto solar cells with combined p-type semiconductor and n-type semiconductor, they produce electricity by photovoltaic effect in which electrons pass through n-layer and p-layer and generate electricity.

These solar cells can be commercialized at the form of solar cell module when they are connected in parallel or in series according to required capacity and solidly structured to endure all kinds of weathers. However, they can’t produce electricity when the sunlight is blocked in rainy, snowy or cloudy days or produce limited electricity according to the intensity of sunlight.

Accordingly, generally photovoltaic generation system consists of array of solar cells connected in series or in parallel, storage battery, power controller, and inverter so that it may supply stable electricity.
